Activities

The college provides ample scope for the development of an integrated personality and takes keen interest in promoting co-curricular activities of the students.

Ceremonial events like Milad-un Nabi, Saraswati Puja, International Language Day, Tagore Anniversary etc. are celebrated with respect and humility.

Two common room, one for boys and other for girls provide ample facilities for indoor games viz. table tennis, carom and chess etc. there is multigym in the college.

On the cultural front, the earlier tradition of debates on special issues, quiz competitions, drama, seminars on different themes and the annual “ Mushaira” (Kavi Sammelan), a very important cultural function attended by representative poets, and carried on.

College magazine is published during the autumn which includes contributions in Bengali, English and Urdu from teachers and students. The MAC Fest is held every year with lot of enthusiasm.

National events like Independence Day, republic day, Netaji's Birthday etc are celebrated with due importance. The college team regularly participates in the Inter- Government College and Intra University Football and Cricket Tournament and Athletic Meets.

Magazine:

Maulana Azad College has a heritage of publishing students magazine monitored by an editorial board managed by the teachers and usually the students union takes the initiatives to gather writings from students. It is evidently true that publication of such a magazine creates enthusiasm among students to reveal their literary imagination. As a number of languages are taught in this college the magazine becomes a hub of diversified streams of linguistic and cultural heritage.

MAC FEST:

Students union organises yearly a festival, Istalazza of cultural activities with the consent of the college where all students get their space to be united in a common forum and this fest usually has a magical spell of enjoyment which is consumed by all the members of the college.

Drama: Staff-Student co-productions:

Prof. Azhar Alam, Assistant Professor of Urdu is a noted playwright, director and actor. His group ‘Little Thespian' has performed in all major theatre festivals in India. Those represented the state in the National Youth Festival organized by Department of Culture, Govt. of India, are:

Drama Workshop: Conducted by Ujjwal Chattopadhyay, Associate Professor of Economics and one of the leading playwrights in Bengal today, conducts workshops on play writing, adaptation and acting with students.

National Service Scheme (NSS):

The college has a National Service Scheme open for the students being guided by a teacher coordinator and this scheme is meant for understanding of social responsibilities by the students.

Sports:

A large playground is available located in the Gorachand Dutta Lane. In addition, University Ground, which is close by, is made available to us in need. Provisions for all major indoor and outdoor games are there. Annual sports are held every year. Prizes and trophies are awarded to the successful participants in the annual sports meet. Interested students who perform well in sports are sent each year as participants in the Inter College and Inter University Sports Meet.

Outdoor and Indoor Games:

Provisions for outdoor games like Soccer, Cricket, Athletics and indoor games like badminton, table-tennis, Carom, Chess are there.
