About the Department


Established in 1926, the Department of Chemistry at Maulana Azad College has advanced with the frontiers of science, offering a University of Calcutta curriculum that fosters innovation and addresses modern challenges. It features ICT-enabled smart classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and a dedicated computer lab with high-speed internet for students.

The faculty engage in cutting-edge research across organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry, supported by advanced instruments like FT-IR Spectrometers, UV-Vis Spectrophotometers, and Rotary Evaporators. Through dissertation projects, hands-on training, and specialized courses, students gain a blend of theoretical and practical expertise.

The Department enriches learning through academic and co-curricular activities, including lectures, hands-on training, seminars, poster sessions, fieldwork, and institutional visits. Students also engage in activities like quizzes, drama, recitation, and dance.
